Singer, songwriter reaches a significant milestone
(Web Desk) - Singer and songwriter Asim Azhar reached a significant milestone as his popular song ‘Jo Tu Na Mila’ crossed the 100 million streams mark on Spotify.
In celebration of this achievement, Azhar took to Instagram to express his gratitude to his fans and announced an exciting surprise for all those who love his hit song.
In his post, he stated, “My first-ever song to cross 100 million streams on Spotify, so I wanted to gift you guys something.
Here is a very special version for all the ‘Jo Tu Na Mila’ fans…”
Along with a snippet of the song’s lyrics, Azhar gave a sneak peek into the upcoming rendition of the beloved track.
He also acknowledged Kunaal Vermaa, the lyricist behind the song, and praised his “killer” lyricism.
Originally released in 2018, the song achieved over 100 million views on YouTube in May 2020.
Azhar celebrated this milestone on social media and expressed his gratitude to his fans.
He also noted that he had become the fourth Pakistani artist, following legends like Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Atif Aslam, and Momina Mustehsan, to have two or more songs surpass the 100 million view mark.
Azhar shared his feelings in an Instagram post, stating that although such achievements are common in some parts of the world, it was a challenging journey for him, considering the region’s unique challenges, including the YouTube ban.
It’s worth noting that ‘Jo Tu Na Mila’ faced allegations of plagiarism, as some social media users pointed out similarities in the melody with a tune from the 1989 Japanese film “A Town with an Ocean View,” originally composed by Joe Hisaishi.
In response, Azhar clarified that the rights for the melody were obtained through legal means, stating that it had been sampled legally under Universal Music India, the song’s release label.
