Pakistani internet users find humor in social media blockade

Web Desk - Pakistan has been facing countrywide protests over the arrest of former PM Imran Khan, and as a result, the authorities have blocked multiple social media platforms in the country. In response, Pakistani users have turned to memes and virtual private networks (VPNs) to navigate around the blockades.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) suspended mobile broadband services on Tuesday on the orders of the Interior Ministry, and it has been reported that the suspension will continue for an indefinite period. The move has prompted users to turn to VPNs to bypass the firewalls and access social media platforms, with Twitter being a particular favorite.

While protests continue to intensify, Pakistani users are finding humor in the situation, making jokes about the effectiveness of VPNs in getting around the blockade. Many have taken to Twitter to share memes and ironic observations about the authorities continuing to use the same platform to give updates.

Despite the humor, the situation remains tense, and users are urged to remain safe during these times of uncertainty. With VPNs being widely used by Pakistani users, it remains to be seen how long the authorities can continue with the social media blockade.
