Netizens make light of power breakdown
(Web Desk) – On Monday, Jan 23, there was a countrywide power breakdown which left people in distress. At the same time, some netizens do not leave any occasion to add up to their joy as they took to Twitter to make a good laugh out of creative memes.
According to sources, there was a massive disruption in the main grid stations affecting Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, Peshawar and Quetta. Soon after the news of the electricity outage went viral, the hashtag (#ElectricityShutDown) started trending on Twitter and other social media platforms including Instagram and Facebook.

Meanwhile, Energy Minister Khurram Dastagir said that most of the system was shut down at night due to the low demand for electricity in the winter season and it was switched on in the morning. Mr Dastagir said when the system was restarted, a decrease in frequency was reported between Jamshoro and Dadu, causing a breakdown in the country.
The Ministry of Energy, in a statement, said the decrease in system frequency of the national grid was reported at 7:34 am, adding that efforts were underway to restore the power supply.
Taking to social media platforms, users have complained of receiving no or weak signals on their mobile phones as the electricity could not be restored for the last eight hours. The cellular companies are yet to confirm the disruption in services.
The blackout has also affected operations at hospitals, courts and government offices.
Though Energy Minister Khurram Dastagir said it was not a major fault and the power supply across the country would be restored within 12 hours.
Taking notice of the blackout, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif sought a report from Energy Minister Khurram Dastagir on the reasons that led to the major electricity crisis in the country. He also asked him to pinpoint the officials who had shown negligence.
Ordering immediate restoration of the power supply, he said such incidents would not be tolerated.
The last major outage in October also took hours to restore. A senior ministry official blamed this outage and the frequent blackouts that Pakistan s 220 million people suffer on its ageing grid.
