Sonya calls out jury of LSA for drama serials with more TRPs being nominated over quality content

LAHORE (Web Desk) – Pakistani actress, TV Host and model Sonya Hussyn Bukharee calls out Lux Style Awards (LSA) 2021 for its double standards when nominating TV dramas.

It is pertinent to mention here that the 20th LSA 2021 nominations were recently announced. There were few prominent snubs in the nominations and actor Sonya Hussyn is done being silent about it.

The Saraab star took to social media and highlighted some of her promising projects, including Saraab, that did not receive any nominations. She also called out the organisers and jury of the LSA for choosing drama serials with more TRPs being nominated over quality content.

"It is very disappointing to see that a project like Saraab did not bag even a single nomination at the Lux Style Awards 2021." She added, "We talk about the need for meaningful content that also educates the masses with real issues but when [such content is] finally created theyre hardly ever recognised/nominated for awards. Aren’t those double standards?"

"Meaningful content or hit projects? Have never really understood the criteria for these award shows. If latter then why were some of my mega-blockbuster dramas like Aisi Hai Tanhai (based on social media abuse), Nazo (based on child abuse), Ishq Zahe Naseeb (based on dual personality disorder), Shikwa (based on societal pressures that widows face) and Meri Guriya (based on child abuse) never considered at all in the past?"

Lastly, the Ishq Zehnaseeb actor wrote, "Ive been silent for seven years but really, were none of these [dramas] deserving? Not even a single project? Anyhow, in a country where veteran artists are given lifetime achievement awards after theyre gone, then who am I to question?"

Apart from Sonya, singer-turned-actor Hadiqa Kiyani also took to social media and addressed why her debut drama Raqeeb Se hasnt received a nomination. "Ive gotten so many messages of love/support for Sakina/Raqeeb Se today but something that needs to be clarified," she tweeted, adding, "Raqeeb Se did not qualify for this years Lux Style Awards but it may qualify for next year based off of the LSA year policy. So until then, lets hold our pitchforks."

On the other hand, rockstar Meesha Shafi expressed her gratitude for being nominated for Best Singer. "Just got an LSA nomination for Singer of the Year for Sakal Ban, which has also been nominated for Best Music Video," the Aaya Lariye singer shared. "A proud moment since it was my first time producing a music video, Thank you to the LSA music jury."
