Shaukat Ali passes away after long battle against liver disease

LAHORE (Web Desk) - Pakistani singer Shaukat Ali, who had been suffering from a liver disease, passed away on Friday after his condition worsened the previous day. At the time, the singer was undergoing treatment at CMH Lahore.

Shaukat Ali had been suffering from a liver disease for a long time. Last year, on the instructions of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, he was admitted to Gambat Institute where he remained under treatment for several days. Later, in October 2020, he was admitted to CMH Lahore on the special instructions of Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

Dignitaries such as Prime Minister Imran Khan, Governor Punjab Chaudhry Sarwar, Information Minister Shibli Faraz and Special Assistant to CM Punjab Firdous Ashiq Awan sent messages of condolence on the sad demise. They acknowledged his services to the nation and prayed for the departed soul.

Shaukat Ali, who belonged to a family of artists from Gujarat, earned fame all over the world through his mystical Punjabi songs. To this day, his 1965 song “Jaag utha hai sara watan" raises the spirits of our soldiers. He was awarded the Pride of Performance Award by the government of Pakistan in 1990.
