Dunya News

Mahira Khan's Superstar is the most successful movie of the year 2019.

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Lollywood might not have seen as profitable year for Pakistan as last one but it witnessed some artistic works like Laal Kabootar which bagged awards all over the world but failed to be in top five high-grossing movies of 2019.

The list for highest-grossing movies follows as:

1) Superstar

Superstar is a Pakistani romantic, musical-drama film, starring Bilal Ashraf and Mahira Khan. It is about a woman who dreams of making it big as a successful actress in the film industry falls for the son of a superstar.

Superstar was widely critically acclaimed and emerged to be the highest-grossing movie for Pakistan in 2019.

2) Parey Hut Love

Parey Hut Love is a Pakistani romantic comedy film, directed by Asim Raza. The story revolves around a young free-willed, commitment phobic, aspiring actor Sheheryar (Sheheryar Munawar) and a beautiful strong willed girl Saniya (Maya Ali) and their romance as they meet and fall in love over a series of unplanned encounters at weddings of their friends and family.

The film is loosely based on 1994 British film Four Weddings and a Funeral. It has managed to be the second most grossing movie of the year.

3) Wrong No. 2

Wrong No. 2 is a Pakistani romantic comedy film. It is sequel to the 2015 film Wrong No., directed by Yasir Nawaz. It revolves around a girl named Zoya (Neelum Munir), a rich heiress who falls in love with a man who is not as financially stable as herself. When former love interests make an appearance, the new lovers face challenges.

Wrong No. 2 is the film you should go for if you like feel-good masala entertainer that does not defy logic.

4) Chhalawa

Chhalawa is Pakistani romantic comedy film, written, directed and produced by Wajahat Rauf. Chhalawa was the story of Zoya (Mehwish Hayat), who wished to wed Sameer (Azfar Rehman) but her father (Mehmood Aslam) acted as a barrier and decided to marry her off to a cousin instead.

Chhalawa is a no-brainer and will utterly disappoint you to your core if you are a fan of unstructured comedy. It still somehow managed to climbed on fourth spot.

5) Sherdil

Sherdil follows its lead character Haris Mustafa, as he journeys from the academy to becoming a Flt Lt in the PAF, chasing his goals that are layered with personal and professional challenges.

It stars Mikaal Zulfiqar, Hassan Niazi, Armeena Rana Khan and Sabeeka Imam. Sherdil concludes the list with mixed reviews.
