'Joker' Reclaims no. 1 spot in US Box Office Charts
Joker collected $849 million worldwide so far making it the most successful R-rated movie in history
VENICE (Reuters) - "Joker," starring actor, Jaoquin Phoenix and directed by Todd Phillips, has returned to the top of the box office charts in the United States, with $18.9 million in ticket sales this weekend, narrowly defeating Disney’s "Maleficent: Mistress of Evil," who was close behind with $18.5 million.
According to BoxOfficeMojo.com "Joker" has reigned supreme in the domestic charts, but has lost out to Angelina Jolie’s "Maleficent" in the international charts.
Since its release the Disney fantasy sequel has failed to perfom in the domestic charts, generating a lackluster $65 million at the box office, however the film is continuing to play well abroad, globally, the "Maleficent" follow-up is nearing the $300 million mark.
Phillips’ dark drama, "Joker", has generated $277 million in North America and $571 million at the international box office, collecting $849 million worldwide, making it the most successful R-rated movie in history acording to Hollywood trade magazine Variety.
