Social media torn as Game of Thrones reaches its end

The series finale divided fans and critics
(REUTERS) - Celebrities and fans took to social media to share their reactions as HBO s long-running smash series, "Game of Thrones," wrapped up on Sunday (May 19).
After eight seasons and 73 episodes, nostalgia ran high for actress Kerry Washington who tweeted:"Sitting with a circle of friends about to watch #GameofThrones series finale. We ve all been watching together for YEARS. It s the end of an era. Enough delaying...jumping in. It wasn t supposed to last forever, right?".
However, the series finale divided fans and critics.
"So this was very underwhelming #gameofthrones," a fan tweeted, while another praised the cinematography and special effects.
HBO says the record-breaking final season drew 43 million viewers on average for each episode in the United States alone, an increase of 10 million over Season 7 in 2017.
