(Web Desk) – American actor Arnold Schwarzenegger has promised to visit Pakistan to highlight extreme climate vulnerability in the country.

This was confirmed by Advisor to Prime Minister on Climate Malik Amin Aslam in a message posted on Twitter:

Malik Amin Aslam met with Arnold Schwarzenegger at COP24 climate conference in Katowice, Poland, where World leaders have gathered to negotiate how to tackle climate change.

While speaking at the event, Schwarzenegger stressed the importance of local leaders in the US in fighting climate change.

He said: “Everytime you talk about America, you’re right when you say that our leadership in Washington is a little bit backwards. But you’re wrong when you say that America dropped out of the Paris agreement. Because if you look a little bit beyond Washington you will see that it is the states and the cities, it’s local governments, that can draw 70% of our emissions. And you will see all the extraordinary work that is going on a state and city level in America."

Few days back, Advisor to PM on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam said that he would highlight Pakistan’s efforts on adaptation, mitigation, climate finance and billion tree plantation project at the COP-24 meeting. He would also highlight the hazardous impact of global warming on glaciers in Pakistan.

He said that these melting glaciers result in Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) which are very dangerous and occur when the ice walls containing the reservoir collapse, sending entire lakes down to inhabited areas and such occurrences cause severe loss of lives as well as property.
