(Web Desk) - Jharna Basak, popularly known as Shabnam - one of the most famous film actresses of Pakistani cinema, celebrates her 75th birthday today.

She was active in the Pakistani film industry from the 60s till the 80s and later in the Bangladeshi film industry in the 1990s. Being a part of the film industry for three decades, Shabnam performed with the most popular male actors of her time. Her chemistry with Nadeem Baig made Pakeeza (1979) and Deewangi (1983) big hits.

Famous movie titles including ‘Aaina’, ‘Bandish’, ‘Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’, ‘Pakeeza, and ‘Qurbaani’ have featured some of her most admired performances.

She has been nominated for Nigar Awards several times, winning it 13 times – the most for an actress.

Shabnam received a lifetime achievement award by the government of Pakistan during her visit to the country in 2012 with her husband Robin Gosh - a famous playback singer and music composer. She has recently visited Pakistan, and has also been part of some literary festivals in the country including the Karachi Literary Festival of 2012, and the Ravians’ Literary Festival where she shared her experiences as one of the most famous actresses of the industry.

Ammajan (1999) – a Bangladeshi film directed by Kazi Hayat, was the last movie featuring Shabnam.
