With several critically acclaimed and widely accepted films, 2016 was a year for Lollywood
LAHORE (Web Desk) – Out of 27 films of Pakistani film industry that released in 2016, here are ten top grossing picks of the year:
Actor In Law
Directed by Nabeel Qureshi of Na Maloom Afraad fame and written by Fizza Ali Meerza, Actor In law follows the life of a Fahad Mustafa, an aspiring actor who has to take up the role of a lawyer out of pressure from his father played by Om Puri.
Box office collections: Rs 235 million
Cast: The film boasts a cast including Mehwish Hayat, Alyy Khan, Humayun Saeed, Mahira Khan and Talat Hussain among others.
Ho Mann Jahaan
Music was given by Atif Aslam, Faakhir Mehmood and Zebunissa Bangash. The film was a coming-of-age drama while the director was a first-timer, Asim Raza. Many believe that for a directorial venture, the narrative was quite mature and the dialogue writer Yasir Hussain is also to be acredited. The film was also lent veteran expertise by senior actors including Bushra Ansari and Munawar Siddique.
Box office collections: Rs 225 million

Lahore Se Aagey
Written by Yasir Hussain as a sequel to 2015 film Karachi Se Lahore, this road-comedy explores journey of Moti from Lahore to northern areas of Pakistan, where he meet Saba Qamar who plays a rockstar. Shiraz Uppal gave the background score of the film while Wajahat Rauf, director of the prequel ventured into this sequel.
Box office collections: Rs 176 million
Cast: Yasir Hussain, Saba Qamar
Janaan
Janaan besides several plusses, exploited the expertise of Bollywood for music as Armaan Malik and Salim Sulaiman from the neighbouring country gave the score for this one. The film was written by television and film actor, osman Khalid Butt and was directed by Azfar Jafri. Janaan released on September 12 and managed to collect Rs 175 million of lifetime total.

Bachaana
A cabbie, played by Mohib Mirza falls in love with an Indian girl named Aalia who is in trouble and needs to safely return to India while being at Mauritius airport at the time when she encounters this cab driver who takes it upon himself to help Aalia.
A romantic thriller involving a married Indian woman (husband played by Adeel Hashmi) and a Pakistani cab driver revolves around a rush that has narcotics, doubt, law-breaking and other story-pieces glued to it.
The film released worldwide on February 26.

Budget: Rs 40 million

Maalik
Released on April 8, Maalik remains the only Pakistani film banned by the federal government after being cleared by all three censor board with universal rating.
Different politically active sections of the society objected to the content of the film. The film explores relocation and lives members of a Pashtun family who manage to settle in Karachi leaving behind ravages of Soviet war in Afghanistan.

Dobara Phir Se
Dobara Phir Se revolves around a divorcee woman settled in New York City who visits her estranged ex-mother-in-law in upscale Connecticut.
The film released on November 25.

Mah-e Mir
Anjum Shahzad collaborated with Sarmad Sehbai for this one and it released on May 6.
The film borrows trials and tribulations of Meer Taqi Meer, a celebrated poet in Lucknow, from his biography. A modern day poet named Jamal played by Fahad Mustafa relives incidents involving Mir as the film takes the audience on the path of imagination and the actor plays for the audience both, Lucknow s Mir and modern day s Jamal.
Music of the film was given by Syed Shahi Hasan while it was written by Sarmad Sehbai.

3 Bahadur: The Revenge of Baba Balaam
3D computer-animated film was directed by two-time Oscar winner, Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy. It was the second in line of 3 Bahadur franchise.

Zindagi Kitni Haseen Hay
The film explores sufferings, passion and emotional crest and troughs of a married couple, Zain (Feroze Khan) and Mahira (Sajjal Ali) who ahve raised a kid but having married at young ages, both of them wish to follow their individual paths as Zain wants to pursue his filmmaking yearning.
Pursuit of passions has a takes a toll on the relationship and the movie talks sees how the two deal with it.
Music of the film was given by Soch, the band besides Sohail Haider and Farhan Shah while directed by Anjum Shahzad, a former television actor and now a writer and producer. Shahzad is best known for his role Bobby in hit-television series Family Front.
