Adventure/comedy Gulliver's Travels would hit cinemas on Christmas Day, 2010. Loosely based on Jonathan Swift's 18th-century novel, this live-action family film from 20th Century Fox has a modern-day setting. The story centers on Lemuel Gulliver (Jack Black), an ordinary guy who works in the mailroom of a New York City newspaper. Despite being a tried-and-true underachiever, Gulliver manages to land a travel-writing assignment in the Bermuda Triangle. When his small boat is pulled into a mysterious whirlpool, he finds himself shipwrecked on Lilliput, an island populated by tiny people. At first, he's taken prisoner, however, he soon becomes a favorite of the royal family, whom he regales with tall tales about his far-reachingand totally fabricatedaccomplishments back home. Things couldn't be going better, until Gulliver chickens out in the face of danger when he is called upon to defend the Lilliputians from their longtime enemies. Can he find a way to help his new friends, regain their respect, and summon the courage to become a true giant among men? Directed by Rob Letterman (Shark Tale), the film also stars Amanda Peet as Gulliver's real-world secret crush; Emily Blunt as the Princess of Lilliput; and Jason Segel as Horatio, Gulliver's six-inch-tall sidekick.
