Top 5 Pakistani movies of last decade
Director Shoaib Mansoor started the revival of Pakistani cinema with ''Khuda Kay Liye'' in 2007
LAHORE (Web Desk) - Pakistani cinema produced some great movies in 1960s, 1970s, 1980s but then there was a bad patch which took Pakistanis away from cinemas.
Same type of movies were produced in 1990s and early 2000s so Indian movies were the first choice of Pakistanis, but in 2007 Pakistani cinema made a great comeback and since then some great movies have been produced.
Here are top 5 must watch movies which have been produced by Pakistan in last five years.
1. Khuda Kay Liye
Khuda Kay Liye was the door opener, directed by Shoaib Mansoor in 2007. The film featured experienced Shaan Shahid, gorgeoud Iman Ali and youngster Fawad Afzal Khan. It highlighted some issues of Pakistani society like extremism, which made people go to the cinemas in big number.
There was also a special appearance of Indian legendary actor Naseeruddin Shah in the movie. It was a masterclass by Shoaib Mansoor and the song Allah hoo was very touching, still loved by people, even though its almost been a decade since it was released.
2. BOL
Khuda Kay Liye was followed by Bol in 2011, another work of Shoaib Mansoor. The movie marked debut of Mahira Khan, who had previously worked as a Video Jockey (VJ). It also marked the acting debut of singer Atif Aslam and Humaima Malik, who impressed Indians and starred opposite Emraan Hashmi in a movie later.
Once again some more issues of society like birth control, treatment of transgenders, women, sectarianism etc were highlighted in the movie.
3. Jawani Phir Nahi Aani
Jawani Phir Nahi Aani was released in 2015, which broke all the records of Pakistani cinema. The movie featuring Humayun Saeed, Mahwish Hayat, Sohai Ali Abro, Hamza Abbasi, Wasey Chaudhry, Ahmed Saeed Butt, Ayesha Khan and Sarwat Gillani was full of comedy and entertainment.
4. Waar
Waar is one of the highest grossing Pakistani movies and was loved by all patriotic Pakistanis, as it highlighted Pakistan Army and Police s services in war against terrorism. The movie starring Shaan Shahid, Ayesha Khan, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Shamoon Abbasi did a business of over 300 million rupees.
5. Main Hoon Shahid Afridi
Main Hoon Shahid Afridi was a tribute to legendary cricketer Shahid Afridi, based on an Afridi fan, who loved cricket. The film featured Humayun Saeed, Noman Habib, Ismail Tara, Mahnoor Baloch, Hamza Ali Abbasi.
