Sharmeen will be representing Pakistan for the second time in Oscars for the Best Documentary

(Web Desk) – In the year 2012, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, 37, made Pakistan proud after her documentary ‘Saving Face’ was awarded the Best Documentary Short Subject at the Oscars, making her the first Pakistani national to win an Academy Award.

This year, Sharmeen is again serving as the sole representative for her country in the Oscars 2016 after her documentary ‘A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness’ was nominated for an Academy Award.

Her production focuses upon the tale of a survivor of honour killing and is based upon real happenings. Saba, the protagonist, falls in love with a man but her family does not agree upon the idea of their marriage. Her own father and uncle torture her, shoot her in the face (luckily, the bullet kisses her cheek and is centimeters away from bursting her brains out) and then throw her in a river. Somehow, she is able to survive this ordeal but the law of the land is unable to provide poor Saba with any justice.

The results for all categories of the Oscars awards will be announced on Sunday at the star studded event, taking place at the Dolby Theater, Los Angeles, California.
