(Web Desk) - The Pakistan Interior Ministry on Tuesday has decided to cancel the passport of singer Adnan Sami as he applied for Indian citizenship.

According to sources, the Indian authorities reported that the issue of Adnan’s citizenship in still under consideration while the Pakistani ministry raged over singer’s attitude towards Pakistan and decided to cancel his passport.

The musician also wants certificate of Pakistan’s citizenship cancellation, but the officials are not allotting him due to his incivility for the country. Adnan has not yet received the final notification over his Indian citizenship but he has undoubtedly broken all relations with his homeland Pakistan.

The Indian media outlet stated that Indian attorney general and union home ministry have vetted approval of Sami’s plea. The plea states that Sami would give up Pakistani citizenship permanently.

Earlier in August, the Indian authorities had extended Sami’s visa for an indefinite time. The artist who has been living in India for past 15 years had applied for citizenship twice. However, Indian authorities threw the plea out both the times.

The 43-year-old singer - whose earlier request was rejected some two years back - has made his application to the Foreigners’ Division of the Home Ministry. Last month, Home Ministry had asked Law Ministry as to whether Sami can be granted Indian citizenship. But Law Ministry refused to entertain the request, saying that the power of granting Indian citizenship lies with the Home Ministry under the Citizenship Act.

However, according to Citizenship Act, a foreign can only get citizenship if he or she has rendered distinguished services towards science, philosophy, art, literature, world peace or human progress.

Moreover, his earlier application was submitted to the special branch of Mumbai Police.
