Actor Emile Hirsch jailed for assault on movie exec

Emile Hirsch was jailed after pleading guilty to assaulting a Paramount movie executive.

LOS ANGELES (AFP) - Hollywood star Emile Hirsch was sentenced to two weeks in jail after pleading guilty to assaulting a Paramount movie executive at the Sundance Film Festival, US media reported Monday.

The "Into the Wild" star also was fined $4,750 and sentenced to 50 hours of community service for attacking executive Daniele Bernfeld at a disco in Park City in January, at a hearing in the Utah city that hosts the famous festival.

The actor -- who earlier said he was drunk and does not recall the incident -- said there was "no excuse. It was wrong, reckless."

"I thought I was going to die," he added.

Hirsch, 30, recently went to rehab for alcohol addiction.

He also apologized to Bernfeld.

The actor is known for edgy and challenging roles -- such as AIDS and LGBT rights activist Cleve Jones in "Milk."
