Van Halen announces tour after cancellations

Dunya News

The band toured for five months in 2012 but then called off three more months of shows.

NEW YORK (AFP) - Hard rock giants Van Halen on Tuesday announced an extensive North American tour, three years after the band canceled dates due to exhaustion.

Van Halen, known for energetic party songs in the 1980s such as "Jump" and "Panama," will open the tour on July 5 in Seattle.

Van Halen, led by Dutch-born brothers Eddie and Alex Van Halen along with singer David Lee Roth, will play large venues across the United States and Canada through October 2 in Los Angeles.

The band toured for five months in 2012 but then called off three more months of shows, fueling rumors of tensions among the veteran rockers.

But Roth, now 60, said at the time that the issue was simply exhaustion and that the band "bit off way more than we could chew."

Van Halen later rescheduled a handful of dates in 2013 in Japan and Australia. The band announced that it is releasing a live album recorded at the Tokyo Dome show.

Van Halen has sold more than 75 million albums and has more number one hits on the mainstream US rock chart than any other artist, according to the band s label.
