The 21st annual Screen Actors Guild Awards should offer a low-key preview to the Academy Awards and a chance for favorites to begin polishing up their acceptance speeches.

The show kicks off Sunday night at 8 p.m. EST (0100 GMT) from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

Because the large membership of the actors guild overlaps considerably with the motion picture academy, the SAG Awards are considered one of the most telling Oscar predictors. Sunday s favorites are Michael Keaton for "Birdman," Julianne Moore for "Still Alice," Patricia Arquette for "Boyhood" and J.K. Simmons for "Whiplash."

Vying for the evening s top honor, best ensemble, are: "Birdman,"   Boyhood,"   The Grand Budapest Hotel,"   The Imitation Game" and "The Theory of Everything."
