MEXICO CITY (AP) - A member of the popular music group Banda El Recodo was found dead early Wednesday in the Pacific resort city of Mazatlan days after he was reported missing, Mexican authorities and the group said.

Aldo Sarabia s body had at least one gunshot wound and was in a state of decomposition, said an official at the Sinaloa state prosecutor s office who was not authorized to discuss the case and spoke on condition of anonymity.

The official said the body was discovered in a community near the port of Mazatlan that has the same name as the group, and more details would be made public later.

Sarabia was part of the brass section of the 18-member group, which is popular in Mexico and the United States and has won multiple Latin Grammys.

On Oct. 17 the group said that Sarabia had been missing for several days and asked fans to pray for him and his family. On Wednesday it issued another statement confirming his death.

"Aldo Sarabia Garcia is now in heaven," it said. "He was our companion and inspiration in a thousand battles and all the moments we shared will endure in the hearts of those of us who knew him."

The statement called him a great friend and father, but did not shed further light on the case.

Sinaloa is the home state of a number of prominent drug cartel capos.
