Summary
The picturesque town of Sonnenbuehl in southern Germany has elevated the humble Easter egg and given it a museum all of its own. The only one of its kind in Germany, the museum celebrates the handicraft and love that goes into decorating hollowed out eggs. The museum itself was founded in 1993 to offer the tourists something to look at when the skiing season was over and as luck would have it some members of the town already had private egg collections to offer up. Along with marvelling at the intricate designs, visitors are given a tour of Easter egg traditions from all over the world. There are about 900 egg examples on display here in a whole variety of shapes and sizes, modern and traditional. Over the Easter festival the museum offers up its space to international egg artists who come and show off their skills.
