Indian president Pratibha Devisingh Patil honoured eminent singer Manna Dey with the Dada Saheb Phalke Award, the highest honour in Indian cinema. Manna Dey received a cash prize of Rupees One million, a Swarna Kamal (golden lotus) trophy and a shawl. Born in 1919, the singer made a mark in Hindi cinema from the 1950s to the 1970s. He has recorded more than 3,500 songs over the course of his career. Manna Dey termed the award 'overwhelming and flattering.' The very fact that they have chosen me, this kind of award is really overwhelming and flattering, I am really flattered, said a delighted Manna Dey after receiving the award at a function in New Delhi. Bollywood filmmaker Yash Chopra also received an award on behalf of his filmmaker son Aditya Chopra. Aditya Chopra's Chak De India, a film about field hockey in India, was named the best film in overall entertainment for 2007.
