Saudi employer ties Filipino maid to a tree for punishment

(Web Desk) - A Filipino woman was allegedly tied to a tree by her wealthy Saudi employer, as punishment for leaving their furniture outside in the sun.

According to Daily Mail, Lovely Acosta Baruelo, 26, subjected to the cruel treatment is a mother of two, she has been working in the Kingdom for quite some time and suffered the inhumane treatment at the hands of her employer. The maid was tied to a tree for leaving an expensive piece of furniture out in the sun.

According to media reports, a  co-worker managed to get the pictures and sent for help in their respective embassy. She also revealed that they were hurt by their employers for small mistakes. 

She was shifted to Manila on May 9 upon receiving the complaint.

The spokesperson for the Philippines Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said ‘ The Philippine Embassy in Riyadh reported that the case of OFW Baruelo was referred to them on 9 May, and she was repatriated on the same day. OFW Baruelo was allegedly punished by her employer by being tied to a tree. 

Lovely, after going back to the Philippines, expressed her gratitude for those who helped her but was afraid for their safety.

‘ Thank you so much to all those who helped me. I want to also ask help for the other Filipinos left there. They are the ones who helped me and uploaded my pictures. I am afraid for their safety. I hope they get rescued too, ‘ she added.

She further disclosed about her employer, who used to deduct their salaries.

‘You old man will find your karma, just you wait. Keep deducting our salaries. This is the reason why you have poor health. It s your karma for all the wrong things you did.’

There are an estimated 2.3 million Filipinos working in the Middle East and Africa, of which many complaints have been received about the ill treatment at the hands of employers.
