10-year-old boy killed in alleged crossfire between police, criminal in Karachi

KARACHI (Dunya News) - A 10-year-old boy was killed and two police officers sustained bullet injuries in an exchange of fire between police and a recently released alleged criminal in Karachi s Quaidabad area on Friday.

Another child, 12 years of age, was also hit by bullets. All of them were rushed to Jinnah Hospital for medical attention.

According to sources familiar with the matter, policemen in civvies were on intelligence gathering duty in Sherpao Colony when they came across a suspect named Sher Zaman, who had been arrested by police earlier.

The suspect allegedly opened fire on officers before breaking into a home. The policemen chased the fleeing suspect, following which an exchange of fire took place, in which two policemen as well as the suspect received injuries.

However, two boys were also caught in the crossfire. It remained unclear whose shots had hit the children.

Autopsy report of deceased Sajjad revealed that he had received bullets in his head and arm from a distance of about five feet.

A similar incident took place in North Karachi on Feb 22 when 20-year-old Nimra Baig was killed after being caught in crossfire between police and robbers.
