SWABI: Anti-polio team once again came under attack in Swabi, district of terrorism-hit province of Khyber Pakhtoonkhaw, at least one policeman guarding the team killed, officials said on Tuesday.


According to District Police Officer (DPO) Swabi, the incident took place at Kala Killay, a town in Swabi district when unknown miscreants opened fire on anti-polio campaign team, as a result one policeman who was guarding the team was killed on the spot.


Security forces rushed to scene and cordon off the area for search operation however the miscreants succeed to flee.


Rescue team shifted the body to District Headquarter Hospital Sawabi.


After a delay of two weeks due to security concerns, a three-day anti-polio campaign under the sub-national immunization day kicked-off in the area.


Earlier, Lady Health Workers and other staff of anti-polio campaign had refused to carry out fieldwork in the parts of Swabi district citing threats to their life after recent attacks on vaccination teams in Peshawar, Nowshera and Charsadda districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.


However, they agreed to resume fieldwork after authorities ensured them security.


Last month, five female teachers, a lady health worker and a male medical technician had been killed while their driver was wounded in attack in Sher Afzal Banda of Chhuta Lahore, Swabi district.
