Pakistan will meet India on September 14 in the Asia Cup cricket tournament
LAHORE (Web Desk) – A petition has been filed in the Indian Supreme Court seeking a ban on the Pakistan-India match in the Asia Cup 2025 being played in the UAE.
Pakistan will meet India on September 14 in the Asia Cup cricket tournament in their first encounter since May clash between the two countries.
According to Indian media reports, the petition was filed by Ketan Tirodkar, a social activist from Pune. The petitioner argued that, in light of the current tensions and “war-like situation” between the two countries, India and Pakistan should not play against each other.
The petition further claimed that such a match violates Article 21 of the Indian Constitution, which guarantees the right to life and personal liberty for Indian citizens.
Indian media reported that the petition will be heard on September 12 by a bench headed by the chief justice of India.
Earlier, BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) secretary Devajit Saikia had clarified India’s position regarding playing against Pakistan in the Asia Cup. He stated that India’s participation in international events is aligned with government policy.
He emphasized that it is not possible for India to refuse participation in tournaments involving multiple countries, and as per the current government stance, there is no restriction on playing against any country in multilateral events.
Saikia said that for countries with which India has strained diplomatic relations, BCCI strictly follows the central government’s directives. The Asia Cup is a multi-nation tournament, and India will participate fully.
Following the same policy, India will continue to play matches against all teams, including Pakistan, in ICC events. However, bilateral series with adversarial countries will not take place.
The BCCI secretary warned that if India refuses to play in a multinational event against any country, it could face international sporting sanctions, potentially harming the players and Indian sports on a global level.
