BLOEMFONTEIN (Web Desk) - South Africa defeated England by 27 runs in the opening one-day international to take a 1-0 series lead.
The hosts won the toss and elected to bat first in the opening ODI of the series, which was contested at Bloemfontein, South Africa s capital city. In 50 overs, they scored 298 runs while losing seven wickets.
In addition to David Miller s 53 runs, De Kock s 37 runs, and skipper Temba Bavuma s 36 runs, Rassie Vander Dussen produced a stunning century and 111 runs for the hosts.
The visitors were bowled out for 271 in 44 overs at chasing the score. Jason Roy s 113-ball innings in 2 overs was ineffective since Dawid Malan and skipper Jos Buttler each scored 59 and 36 runs, respectively.
South Africa s squad won the game, giving them a 1-0 series lead. The second one-day international of the series between the two countries will be contested on January 29 at Bloemfontein.
