Babar named captain of ICC Men's ODI Team of the Year, no Indian in final XI
DUBAI (Dunya News) – International Cricket Council (ICC) has named Pakistan s Babar Azam as the captain for the ODI Team of the Year, a day after it picked him as the skipper of the T20I Team of the Year.
The ICC Team of the Year recognised 11 outstanding individuals who have impressed one and all — be it with the bat, the ball or their all-round exploits in a calendar year.
Azam scored 405 runs at an average of 67.50 with two centuries despite playing only 6 matches. The Pakistan skipper made important contributions in both away tours of England and South Africa, ending up with the Player of the Match award in both their victories in the latter. His 405 runs include a memorable 158 in Birmingham in conditions that were not easy for the batters.
Fakhar Zaman has also been included in the 11-men squad for his stellar performance in the year 2021, while no player from the Indian cricket team has been able to make it to the list.
Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan gets the nod for the all-rounder spot while wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim will handle the glovework.
Sri Lanka s Wanidu Hasaranga, who was also in the T20I Team of the Year, is the leg-spinner in the ODI XI. Sri Lanka s Dushmantha Chameera and Bangladesh s Mustafizur Rahman handle the pace-bowling department along with Ireland s Simi Singh.
