KARACHI (Dunya News) – The 12th match of the sixth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) between Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators has been rescheduled after player from the United squad contracted coronavirus.

This was onfirmed in latest PCB tweet saying, "Quetta Gladiators-Islamabad United match rescheduled for Tuesday, 2 March, at 7pm PKT. More details to follow shortly."

The decision has been made despite both the sides returning negative tests on late Monday afternoon after Fawad Ahmed of Islamabad United’s test result came back positive earlier today. Fawad was put in isolation late Saturday night. He will re-enter the bio-secure bubble after two negative tests.

The decision to reschedule the match has been made after a careful consideration, aimed at allowing players sufficient time to relax, refocus and regroup following the testing and in the best interest of the competition.

While all squad members of Quetta Gladiators and Islamabad United have tested negative, players and player support personnel of the four remaining sides and the match officials will undergo rapid tests on Monday evening.

The tickets for Monday’s match will be valid on Tuesday, while the unused tickets can be refunded.

Earlier, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in its latest tweet said, “A player from one of the sides featuring in this evening’s match has tested positive. The player had showed symptoms two days ago and had been immediately isolated. Members of his side have tested negative while the players of the other side are being tested.”

In another tweet PCB said, “Match start time to be confirmed shortly.”

Quetta Gladiators to take on Islamabad United

Quetta Gladiators haven’t had the best of tournaments thus far in the ongoing edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). After the crushing defeats at the hands of Karachi Kings and Lahore Qalandars, the team, led by Sarfaraz Ahmed, went down to the Peshawar Zalmi in a nail-biting encounter. Their bowlers flattered to deceive after their batters put up 198 runs on the board.

After three losses on the trot, the Gladiators would be hoping to cease their losing-streak when they face the Islamabad United today at the National Stadium in Karachi.

On the other hand, Islamabad United have won two of their three matches so far in this year s competition.

A three-wicket victory over Multan Sultans in their opening fixture of the campaign was followed by another successful chase, this time against Karachi Kings.

Islamabad watched Sharjeel Khan smash a 59-ball 105 as Karachi posted 196 for 3, but then made short work of the target and romped home with five wickets and five balls to spare.

United s excellent start to the season came to an abrupt end on Saturday when, after being asked to bat first for the first time in 2021, they were skittled for 118 by Peshawar Zalmi, who knocked off the runs in 17.1 overs.
