Kashif believed in the need to over haul our cricket

(Web Desk) – Actor Kashif Mehmood bashed Boom Boom Afridi and held him responsible for the down turn of cricket in Pakistan.

In a video message Kashif ripped apart Afridi who according to him might be a very good human being but was certainly not worth Hero worship. He blamed his 37 ball hundred; the real cause for the lack of technique and stamina in the new lot of cricketers, where every kid just wants to hit four sixes in an over instead of planning innings and seeing the team through the 50 overs.

‘Who is responsible for our cricket’s destruction? Just one man, whose name is Shahid Khan Afridi because of this man our cricket is ruined.’

We all wonder why does India produce good batsmen or for that matter why we bring forward good fast bowlers. India made Sunil Gavaskar their ‘God father’ who was technically very sound, he was idealized by Tendulkar who then became India’s ultimate hero and then came Virat Kohli and so and so.

‘We made Imran Khan our icon of fast bowling and even know with cricket in its dire state we have managed to produce Shaheen Afridi,’ he added.

But when did the problem start? It all started in the last 20 years, when we made Afridi the cricket hero on the assumption that, ‘If Afridi hits.’

In cricketing terms we use the word ‘Darra’ for such hitting. There are no if and buts in cricket. Had we made Inzimam, Younis Khan, Mohammad Yusuf, our heroes, cricket would be alot different.

The real mess started with the century on 37 balls, it didn’t help our cricket rather butchered it.

‘I’m not against Shahid Afridi, I’ve never met him but this is my analysis that we made that cricketer our hero who might be a very good human being but certainly not a good cricketer.’

Kashif believed in the need to over haul our cricket because every aspiring club cricketer tries to hit four sixes in an over as he wants to emulate Afridi.
