(Web Desk/AFP) – Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Shahryar Khan announced during the Prime Minister House ceremony that ODI skipper Sarfraz Ahmed will now lead the Test side as well. "I take this opportunity to announce Ahmed as our Test captain in addition to one-day and Twenty20 captain," Khan said.

The 30-year-old was honoured by the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif himself. He was invited along with all the players of the squad to attend the prize distribution ceremony for their triumphant in ICC Champions Trophy 2017.

PM held a reception in the honuor of Pakistan cricket team on Tuesday in which top government officials including State Water and Power Minister Abid Sher Ali, Planning and Development Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique and State Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb were present.

The ceremony was also attended by Pakistan Super League (PSL) Chairman Najam Sethi, Chief Selector Inzamam Ul Haq and other PCB officials. The players will receive Rs10 million each from Nawaz Sharif as was announced earlier after they defeated India in the thrilling final of ICC CT17.

"I am honoured to be appointed Test captain," he said during the ceremony. "I will do my best to lift the team in all three formats and will not rest on Champions Trophy laurels."

Sharif rewarded every member of the Trophy winning team with a prize of 10 million rupees ($100,000) while members of the team management received five million ($50,000).

Reports of Sarfraz Ahmed to be made Test skipper were already circulating. It was a shared opinion of both Shahryar Khan and Najam Sethi. Former Test skipper Misbah-ul-Haq played his last Test against West Indies this year. He remained on the position for seven years and is now regarded as the Pakistan’s most successful Test captain.

The wicket-keeper batsman already leads the side in ODI format and T20 matches. It should be noted that Sri Lanka have refused to tour Pakistan in October-November this year.
