Summary The cricket board does not have reasonable evidence against his client: defence counsel

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Tribunal has turned down plea on Friday filed Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) seeking permission to cross-question accused Sharjeel Khan in Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2017 spot-fixing case.

The board had sought off the tribunal to enforce Khan’s presence during hearings and permit cross questioning.

The tribunal had earlier rejected board’s petition to make a report compiled by National Crime Agency a part of the proceedings. According to counsel for defence, turning down of PCB’s petition is a victory of defence’s stance.

He further claimed that the cricket board did not have reasonable evidence against his client.

Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Lateef, players of Islamabad United, a one-time champion franchise of PSL, were flown back to Pakistan and lodged cases against earlier this year after their contacts with bookies came to light.

The tribunal has summoned former cricketer Aqib Javed in capacity of a judicial witness in next hearing on July 6.
