Summary A look at some of the players that are expected to play a pivotal role in the women team's campaign.

LAHORE (Raacikh Asghar) - With the ICC Women’s World Cup all set to begin from 24th June, the Pakistani team sets its sight on winning the cup, hoping to repeat the feat the men’s cricket team achieved. So far, the team has been off to a topsy-turvy start winning just one of their two warm-up matches.

In the match against West Indies, the batting clicked for the green team as the team eventually won by a comfortable margin of five wickets with over two overs to spare. Bismah Maroof and Nain Abidi starred in the match. However, in the very next match against Australia, Pakistan failed miserably and lost the match by eight wickets with 160 balls still left to be bowled.

If the Pakistanis wish to repeat the success of Sarfraz’s XI, the batting, bowling and fielding needs to click. For that purpose, the team will rely heavily on a few key players.

Here are the Pakistani players to look forward to in this year’s ICC Women’s World Cup:

Nain Fatima Abidi

The 32-year-old veteran from Karachi will be looking to share her experience in the dressing room. Even though she is going through a rough patch in international cricket, her match-winning knock against West Indies in the warm-up match of the World Cup, suggested otherwise. Nain Abidi will look to take maximum advantage of that knock. In a career that spans over 80 matches, the 32-year-old has scored over 1500 runs at an average of around 21.

Bismah Maroof

The fans back home have pinned high hopes with Bismah Maroof as she is widely considered as one of Pakistan’s best from the XI. The 25-year-old all-rounder from Lahore will be key for the women’s team. So far Bismah has played very well with both the bat and the ball against West Indies and Australia in the warm-up matches where she scored 75 & 39. As far as her bowling is concerned, the girl from Lahore doesn’t disappoint her captain and tends to break partnerships at crucial points with her conventional leg-break bowling.

Sana Mir

Of course no list can be completed without the mention of Sana Mir. Mir, who has been a mother-like figure for the rest of the team, will have a crucial part to play for her team against the rest of the world. The 31-year-old experienced campaigner will have to martial her troops aggressively if her team wants to lift the trophy come 23rd July. Her recent form suggests that Sana has what it takes to turn matches around in favor of the ‘green team’ especially with the ball.
