South Africa Innings

Overs 40, Score 221/3

Things got a bit slow as the two dangerous batsmen i.e. F du Plessis and AB de Villiers were back in the pavilion at quick intervals.

The dangerous Miller decided to took charge in the 37th over bowled by Prasanna as he lofted cleanly over the bowler’s head for a maximum.

Meanwhile, the brilliant Amla was playing in his own style as he was rotating the strike at regular intervals besides putting the bad deliveries through to the fence.

Meanwhile, the next over bowled by Pradep was bowled brilliantly as only two runs came of it. Later on, it was Gunaratne who conceded 5 runs in his over while the introduction of Malinga also brought some pressure as only 9 runs came of the last three overs till fortieth over.

South Africa were 221 for the loss of three wickets after 40 overs with Hashim Amla batting on 96 and Miller on 17 not out.

Overs 35, Score 198/1

In the thirty first over, it was du Plessis who drills the ball through to the gap at extra cover for four more.
South Africa seemed to be in a comfortable position when the excitement was tarnished by the dismissal of F du Plessis who was caught brilliantly by Chandimal of the bowling of Pradeep.

F du Plessis departed after scoring 75 runs as South Africa were 190 for the loss of two wickets at the end of 34th over.

The introduction AB de Villiers at this stage of the game means there will be some fireworks at the end of the innings. The fervor and craze of the spectators upon AB’s arrival was short lived as he was caught by Kapugedera of the bowling of Prasanna after scoring just four runs.

A total of eight runs were scored of 35th over as South Africa were 198 for the loss of one wicket after 35 overs.

Overs 30, Score 163/1

Amla in order to speed things up drove off the back foot in the 22nd over as the ball races away towards the square leg boundary for four more.

Amla yet again took the charge in Malinga’s over as he clipped the ball away to his left for a boundary.

South Africa were 114 for the loss of one wicket after 23 overs.

Prasanna got some punishment in the 24th over as first it was du Plessis who thumped him away for a boundary and later on later on by Amla for a maximum as 11 runs came of his over.

In the twenty sixth over, it was du Plessis who took the charge in the twenty seventh over as pulled it powerfully in front of square for four more.

Both these batsmen were putting bad deliveries for four while at the same time rotating the strike at regular intervals.

At the end of thirtieth over, the average 5.43 per over as South Africa had a great chance to put a decent total in the board as they had 9 wickets in hand with du Plessis and the consistent Amla on the crease.

Overs 20, Score 90/1

In the eleventh over, Q de Kock played brilliantly an over pitch from Pradep to the fence for four more as South Africa were 39 for no loss after 11 overs.

The skipper brought in Gunaratne to the attack who also bowled rather good as South Africa were 44 for no loss at the end of twelfth over.

In the 13th over, South Africa lost their first wicket in the shape of Q de Kock who was caught behind by Dickwella of the bowling of Pradeep after scoring rather a slow innings of 23 runs.

South Africa were 45 for the loss of one wicket after 13 overs.

Fifty came up for South Africa in the 14th over as they were 51 for no loss at the end of this over.

Amla was batting slow may be because of the pitch and so was F du Plessis as South Africa run rate at the end of 15th over was just 3.66.

It was in the seventh over when F du Plessis after being dropped by Malinga guided the bowl to the boundary for four more as eight runs came of the over.

Amla took the charge in the 19th over as thumped Gunaratne for a huge six over leg stump. A good over for South Africa as 11 runs came of it.

Both these batsmen had decided to reschedule the innings as F du Plessis swept really well of the bowling of Prasanna and resulting in nine runsbeing conceded of the twentieth over.

South Africa were 90 for the loss of one wicket after 20 overs.

Overs 10, Score 32/0

Malinga took the new ball as Hashim Amla and Q de Kock started the proceedings for South Africa. Malinga as usual bowled fast as only 3 runs were conceded of the first over.

Lakmal shared the new ball with Malinga as he also bowled a fine over that conceded just 3 runs in second over.

Malinga restricted the South African openers from freeing their arms as only 4 runs were conceded in the third over.

Meanwhile, the other attack bowler Lakmal was also bowling with such a fine technique as the margin of width was almost negligible in his bowling. Lakmal just conceded 3 runs in his over.

The first five overs were exceptionally bowled as only 12 runs came of it. The sixth over being bowled by Lakmal conceded six runs as it was so unusual that South Africa without any boundary were 18 for no loss after six overs.

It was in the seventh over when Q de Kock sliced a drive of Malinga and fetched the first boundary of the day in the process.

South Africa were 24 after seven overs without losing any wicket.

Lakmal meanwhile bowled yet another brilliant over while conceding just 3 runs.

The skipper Upal Tharanga who is filling Angelo Matthews’ shoes in this match has decided to introduce Pradep instead in place for Malinga in the ninth over. Pradep bowled brilliantly as he only gave away one run.

Lakmal showed some real consistency however the good over was somehow spoiled by Hashim Amla who put a bad delivery into the infield for four more. Indeed expertly done by Amla!

South Africa were unconventionally slow as they were 32 for no loss after 10 overs.
