WEB DESK – The defending champions kicked off proceedings in style as they beat New Zealand by 45 runs on D/L method in the warm-up match at the Kennington Oval, London.
Earlier, New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat first as Mohammad Shami provided India with the kind of start that they wanted by picking up the wickets of Martin Guptill, Kane Williamson and Neil Broom within the first nine overs.
New Zealand never recovered from the early blows as they were all out for 189 in 38.4 overs. Apart from Luke Ronchi 66 and Neesham 46 not out, none of the Kiwi batsman was able to stood against the disciplined Indian bowling.
Wickets fell at regular intervals as New Zealnad failed to register a score that could upset the Indian batting line-up.
In reply, Indian batting line managed to reach 129 for the loss of three wickets in 26th over when rain interrupted play with the defending champions ahead.
The skipper while leading from the front scored a brilliant knock of 52 runs and thus helping his side registering a win ahead of the Champions Trophy 2017.
Opener Shikhar Dhawan with his contribution of 40 runs also played a crucial role in the successful chase.
India will take on Bangldesh in their next warm-up ahead of the Champions Trophy 2017.
