Summary Ireland won the toss and elected to field against England.

LONDON (AFP) – Ireland captain William Porterfield won the toss and elected to field against England in the second one-day international at Lord’s on Sunday.

Porterfield’s decision to bowl first in Ireland’s first ODI at Lord’s, ‘the home of cricket, was understandable for a couple of reasons.

The overcast conditions offered to assist Ireland’s seamers and having seen his side shot out for just 126 in the first of this two-match series, with England easing to a seven-wicket win at Bristol on Friday, it was easy to see why Porterfield did not want to bat first.

England named an unchanged side, with Dublin-born Eoin Morgan captaining the team on his Middlesex home ground against an Ireland side featuring county colleague Tim Murtagh.

Ireland made one change, with paceman Barry McCarthy, who plays county cricket for Durham, replacing Stuart Thompson.

Wicket-keeper Niall O’Brien was passed fit following concerns over a finger injury.

Ireland’s lone previous international match at Lord’s was a nine-run defeat by Sri Lanka during the 2009 World Twenty20.
