PSL: Fight till end, Gladiators snatch victory against Qalandars

Summary Quetta Gladiators won the toss and chose to field first. Gayle, Azhar, Akmal made them pay the price

DUBAI: (Dunya News/Web Desk) - It was drama up until the end but Quetta Gladiators defeated Lahore Qalandars by 2 wickets in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) T20 s 18th match. Lahore Qalandars set a decent total of 201/2 which the Gladiators managed to achieve at the loss of 2 wickets.

Ehsan Adil, with an exceptional fielding and bowling skills did manage to put the Qalandars back in the game with 4 wickets, however some spectacular batting by Nabi at the end was all that the Gladiators needed. 

Lahore Qalandars innings was a delight to watch with Chris Gayle and Azhar Ali in fine form, Gayle scoring a whoping 60 runs off just 34 balls and some massive sixes to his name while Azhar Ali scoring 61 runs off 45 balls.

For the Gladiators, Bismillah Khan gave problems to the Qalandar s ballers, scoring 55 runs off 30 deliveries. However the middle order of Gladiators could not manage anything concrete and crumbled. But it was Nabi s spectacular batting scoring 30 runs off just 12 balls who stole the show and won the highly charged match. 

Quetta Gladiators won the toss against Lahore Qalandars and elected to field first. Quetta Gladiators made three changes today as Kevin Pietersen came in. The pitch looked great for batting and there was every chance of a high scoring game at Dubai Sports City.

Overs 19.6: FOUR! Gladiators needed a boundary off the last ball and they ve got it. Nabi does it for Gladiators. Qalandar fans in tears. Gladiators win by 2 wickets. 

Overs 19.3: SIX! A massive shot. Nabi on fire. Qalandar fans biting their nails. 

Overs 19.2: FOUR! Straight down the ground by Nabi.  

Overs 18.5: OUT! Anwar Ali with a huge shot, Umar Akmal with a good catch. Ali goes for 6 runs. 

Overs 18.2: FOUR! Nabi again. Strokes it gently to the boundary. Gladiators need 17 runs off 10 balls

Overs 18.1: SIX! Nabi with a massive hit.

Overs 17.3: OUT! Adil strikes again.  Mohammad Nawaz caught behind by keeper Rizwan. Qalandars back in the game. Gladiators need 28 runs off 14 balls.

Overs 15.6: OUT! Ehsan Adil you beauty. Sangakara bowled on a spectacular delivery. Goes for  37 runs off 26 balls.

Overs 15.3: OUT! Sarfaraz bowled trying to sweep Ehsan Adil s delivery, big wicket. Danger man goes for 21 runs. 

Overs 15.2: FOUR! Sarfaraz strokes it down the leg side.

Overs 13.6: FOUR! Sangakara again. Lifts it up, towards the boundary.

Overs 11.4: Just two runs off the Free Hit. Delport fields it at the Long On boundary.

Overs 11.3: It was caught on the Long On boundary by Delport but that was a No Ball as Zohaib Khan s left foot had hit the stumps at the non-striker s end while bowling and they ve been awarded a Free Hit now. 

Overs 10: Half way through the innings, Gladiators are 107 for 3. Zohaib Khan has been bowling brilliantly so far. He s given away only 8 runs off his first 2 overs. Qalandars were 7 runs behind the Gladiators at this time but had all their wickets still intact at that time. Quetta have lost 3 more than them so far.

Overs 8.5: OUT! Bismillah Khan has top-edged that bouncer and wicket-keeper Muhammad Rizwan has taken a running catch to his left. Qalandars are suddenly 101 for 3 now.

Overs 8.4: OUT! Kevin Pietersen has been undone by Dwayne Bravo s slow delivery. He threw his bat at the ball there and it came just a bit late at his bat, skying up for being caught at the Long On boundary by Umar Akmal. Gladiators are now 101 for 2. 

This is surely on the cards.

Overs 6.4: FOUR! and FIFTY for Bismillah Khan. Wow! That s been some innings. 51 off just 24 balls with 10 boundaries and a six. 

Overs 6.1: FOUR! Qalandars  woes don t seem to be coming to an end. This is the first ball after the end of the powerplay and has gone for a boundary again. Bismillah Khan is loving it right now.

Overs 6: The powerplay has finally ended and Qalandars might now be able to put a cork at the flowing boundaries here.  The 6th over gave away only 4 runs. Gladiators are 77 for 1.

Well, this must be some record.

Overs 3.6: FOUR! That s horrible stuff for Lahore. There was clearly a sound on the fifth ball of the over but Aleem Dar didn t think that was out. But right now, Gladiators are 64 for 1 off just 4 overs and Qalandars seem to be completely out of sorts here.

Overs 3.4: FOUR! Nothing s going Lahore s way right now. Bismillah has edged this one for four and now they are 60 for 1 off just 3.4 overs. 

Overs 3.1: FOUR! And another boundary it is. 6 boundaries now off the last 6 balls.

Overs 3: What a start for Kevin Pietersen? After getting Ahmed Shehzad on the first ball of the over, Ehsan Adil has gone for 5 boundaries off the next 5 balls. Massive over for Gladiators and they re already 48 for no loss. They re racing through it. 

Qalandars have got their first wicket. Fans are confident.

Overs 2.1: OUT! Ahmed Shehzad is gone. It s been a very short stay at the crease for Shehzad who played only two balls. The first ball he faced was hit for a boundary and the very next hit him on the pad, right in front of the wickets and the umpire s finger went up. Ehsan Adil has his man and Gladiators are now 28 for 1. 

18 off the 2nd over. Gladiators are not giving it up that easy.

Overs 1.2: SIX! Bismillah Khan hits that over the mid-wicket boundary for a six.

Overs 0.6: FOUR! Gladiators are right on target, at least till now. They have to score around 10 runs an over and they ve scored 10 off the first. It s going to be an exciting contest, hopefully.

Overs 20: That s it! Qalandars have scored   201  and Gladiators have a gigantic task to fulfill now.

Overs 19.4: 200 up for Lahore Qalandars. This is the first time a team has crossed 200-run mark in the Pakistan Super League. Qalandars might have been down and out for most part of the tournament but they have both the highest totals of the tournament so far under their belt now.

Overs 19.2: FOUR! It was a yorker and Bravo negotiated it brilliantly, cutting it for a boundary behind the wickets. Lahore 195 for 2 now.

Overs 19.1: That was pitched right up. Bravo tried to negotiate this one but couldn t do much. He could only manage to hit to the Point fielder and no runs there.

Overs 19.0: Too much drama here in Dubai. Umar Gul had bowled Dwayne Bravo out on a perfect yorker but it turned out to be a No-Ball and Bravo was called back by the umpire. Qalandars still in with a chance of crossing 200 runs. It s a Free Hit now.

Overs 19: Qalandars are 190 for 2. The highest score in this tournament is 194 and that too was by Lahore Qalandars against the same team in the first round of matches. They ve a big chance to improve on their record.

Overs 18.4: SIX! WOW. This one was a bouncer outside the off-stumo and Umar Akmal just helped it on its way towards the Third Man boundary for a six. Qalandars are on song here.

Overs 18.3: SIX! That s another one. It was flatter than the last one but same result. He literally heaved that one over the boundary line for six.

Overs 18.2: SIX! Ohh that s beautifully hit. He made it a full toss and banged that over the mid-wicket boundary for a six. 

They ve surprised everyone.

Karachi Kings need Lahore Qalandars to lose today.

Overs 16.6: SIX! That s a massive hit by Umar Akmal. Qalandars are now 161 for 2 and still have 18 balls left. Can they touch that magical figure? 

Overs 16.3: 150 up for the Qalandars. They must be eyeing somewhere around 200.

Though slowed down a bit, they still can do this.

Dwayne Bravo has now joined Umar Akmal in the middle.

Overs 15.2: OUT! Azhar Ali has hit that one straight to Anwar Ali at the mid-wicket and Qalandars are now 142 for 2.

Overs 15: 15 overs have been completed now and Lahore Qalandars are now 141 for 1. After hitting 3 boundaries in the 15th over, Qalandars are now back on the track and the run rate in now 9.40.

Qalandars have fallen a bit quiet now. No wickets have fallen but the flow of runs has calmed down a bit. Their overall innings run rate is still 9.11 though and with this run rate, they ll easily cross 180-run mark. Anything above 150 is of course tough to chase.

Overs 12.4: FIFTY for Azhar Ali as well and he has taken just 37 balls for this. Chris Gayle was hitting hard and, meanwhile, Azhar Ali has also sneaked trhough his fifty.

Umar Akmal has come to the crease now.

Overs 10.3: OUT! And finally he has connected one wrong. It was a full toss by Zulfiqar Babar and Gayle has hit that one straight to Ahmed Shehzad who made no mistakes at the Long On boundary. He scored 60 runs off just 34 balls. Qalandars are 108 for 1.

Overs 10.2: SIX! BOOM. He s hit that out of the park.

Overs 10: 100 up! We re half way through the innings and the Qalandars are already 100 and haven t lost any wickets yet. Gladiators must find it difficult to pull it back from here. Gayle and Azhar are punishing everyone here.

Lahore would take that gladly today.

Overs 7.3: FOUR! This is excellent stuff by Lahore Qalandars. After some massive hits by Chris Gayle, now Azhar Ali has picked up the speed too. Qalandars are now 75 for no loss and it s just the 8th over of the innings.

Overs 7.2: SIX! Azhar Ali hits that one in the gap and it just clears the boundary for a six.

It was Quetta who won the toss today. They seem to have been taken by surprise.

Overs 4.4: FIFTY up for the Qalandars. This is brilliant stuff from Chris Gayle.

Overs 4.3: SIX! That s another one. This time over the Long On boundary. It was a full toss and deserved the treatment it got. Lahore Qalandars are 49 for no loss after just 4.3 overs.

Overs 4.2: SIX! Gayle is in supreme touch here. He s 36 already off just 19 balls and that includes 4 sixes. 

Overs 3.2: SIX! Again! Chris Gayle looks in great nick right now.

Overs 3: Qalandars are at 26 at the end of 3 overs. Chris Gayle has hit 2 sixes so far. Could it be his day?
