Summary Chief selector says no one dropped for bringing Amir in, Waqar says team formed with consultation

LAHORE: (Dunya News) – Chief Selector Pakistan national team Haroon Rasheed has on Friday dispelled the impression that Mohammad Irfan, or anyone, was dropped for bringing Mohammad Amir back into the team. Chief Coach Waqar Younis also said that the team was formed with consultation. He said that Irfan hasn’t been overlooked and he is still the part of the shortlisted World Cup squad, reported Dunya News.

Amir has banged his way back into the team after 5 years of remaining out of the national side. Haroon Rasheed clearly stated that Irfan has been dropped but the impression that Junaid Khan and Irfan have been dropped to pave way for Amir is wrong.

The 16-member national squad for New Zealand series announced today has only 2 specialist openers. Responding to a question on this subject, Haroon Rasheed presented an interesting logic. He said that Sohaib Maqsood has been tried as an opener in the past and he plays the new ball well so he can be used as an opener with Ahmed Shehzad while Mohammad Hafeez is already there.

Rasheed said that there is no spinner of Yasir Shah’s quality in Pakistan’s domestic circuit. Waqar Younis also said that Yasir Shah will be badly missed in the series.

National coach welcomed Amir back in the team. In his message for Irfan, Waqar said that the tallest bowler of the world hasn’t been overlooked since he is still the part of Pakistan’s World Cup plan.
