KARACHI (Dunya News) – Cricketers and politicians were seen at the espousal ceremony as Pakistan’s all rounder domestic and international cricketer Anwar Ali tied the nuptial knot on Tuesday. The “Walima” reception of Ali was held at a local hotel in Karachi. No sportsmen from Pakistan’s national cricket team were seen however.

Along with friends and family, Ali’s impressive wedding reception was attended by Pakistani team’s Chief Selector Haroon Rasheed, former cricketer Jalal-ud-Din and political figures including Awami National Party’s (ANP) president of Karachi Shahi Syed. Invited guests at the wedding looked delighted at the event and took numerous photos with the wedding couple.

Ali’s career in the professional world of cricket was pushed to international fame due to his monumental performance in the 2006 International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Under-19 World Cup. The World Cup finale was watched by millions as the two cricket giants and famous rivals Pakistan and India battled for the glory of the World Cup in Colombo Sri Lanka. Ali’s astounding bowling spell of 5 wickets for 35 runs, including the wickets of senior Indian national team players Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja, became the sole reason for Pakistan’s win by 38 runs in the final against India making the Under-19 team a second time champion.

The growing cricket star also plays for the Karachi Zebras and Sindh Dolphins in domestic cricket.

Ali made his T-20 debut in cricket 12th October 2008 in a match against Zimbabwe. He then went on to make his One Day International (ODI) debut against South Africa on 24th of November 2013 where he made a handsome score of 43 runs off 55 balls and took 2 wickets during his bowling spell. Pakistan won the match by 23 runs. Ali was named as the Man of the Match for his brilliant performance. The rising cricketer was again named the Man of the Match for his excellent performance in a T-20 match against Sri Lanka where he scored a prodigious total of 46 runs on just 17 balls and a wicket during his bowling spell.

Hailing from Swat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Ali was born in 1987. His family settled in Karachi during his early days. Starting from humble beginnings as a laborer in a factory, Ali’s penchant for cricket and talents in the game were recognized by Pakistan’s former cricketer Aqib Javed who took him under his wing. Ali says his inspiration comes from the cricket legends Wasim Akram and Imran Khan.
