Summary English skipper Alaistair Cook was dismissed on 263

ABU DHABI (AFP) - England, lifted by a monumental double hundred by skipper Alastair Cook, closed the fourth day of the first Test against Pakistan on 569-8 in Abu Dhabi on Friday.

Cook was finally dismissed for 263 after batting for 13 hours and six minutes, hitting 18 boundaries.

Joe Root scored 85 and Ben Stokes made 57 as England led Pakistan s first innings total of 523-8 declared by 46 runs. Paceman Wahab Riaz was the best Pakistani bowler with 3-116.

Paceman Rahat Ali provided Pakistan the breakthrough after they went without wicket in the extended two-and-a-half hour session due to Friday prayers.

Pakistan were once again sloppy in the field as they missed another chance to dismiss Cook when wicket-keeper Sarfraz Ahmed failed to take an inside edge off Riaz when the England captain was on 173.

Fawad Alam had let off Cook on 147 off spinner Zulfiqar Babar on Thursday.

Pakistan s frontline spinner Babar also struggled to take a wicket, conceding 180 runs in his 70 overs.
