Summary Sarfraz's 96 came off just 86 deliveries with 13 fours.
GALLE, Sri Lanka (AP) - A 139-run partnership between Sarfraz Ahmed and Asad Shafiq helped Pakistan to reach 259-6 at lunch on day four of the first test against Sri Lanka, still trailing the hosts by 41 runs on first innings.
Sarfraz (96) and Shafiq (64 not out) added runs quickly, with Pakistan scoring 141 runs in the session for the loss of only Sarfraz s wicket. He fell four runs short of his century when he was bowled trying to sweep a Dhammika Prasad delivery.
Sri Lanka needed to clean up Pakistan s tail quickly to try and engineer a result from a test match that lost its first day to rain, but the chances of either side winning look remote with five sessions to play.
Sarfraz s 96 came off just 86 deliveries with 13 fours.
