Summary India named young all-rounder Akshar Patel in their side, with Ishant Sharma left out.

MELBOURNE (AFP) - India won the toss and elected to bat in their tri-series one-day international against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday.

Australia named tall paceman Gurinder Sandhu to make his ODI debut in the match.

The 21-year-old, who was born in Australia to Indian parents, was promoted at the expense of spinner Xavier Doherty, who played in the comfortable win over England in the series-opener on Friday.

India named young all-rounder Akshar Patel in their side, with Ishant Sharma left out.
