Summary Younis, Azhar see the day off after Ahmad Shehzad, Hafeez lost their wickets unnecessarily
ABU DHABI: (Web Desk) – Pakistan started off in style after bowling Aussies out for just 261 runs in pursuit of their mammoth total of 570 in the first innings but after hitting 2 boundaries and a six in the first 5 balls of the 1st over of the innings, Ahmad Shehzad was bowled out by Mitchell Johnson on the final delivery on a sizzling Yorker. Hafeez didn’t take long either. He tried to pull one that was quick on to him and the ball skied taking the top edge of the bat. Starc took a brilliant diving catch to ensure Hafeez’s return to pavilion.
Younis Khan and Azhar Ali joined hands once again to see the rest of the day through. Younis Khan is not out at 16 off 60 balls while Azhar Ali, who’s been only slighltly quicker, has scored 21 runs off 54 balls. The pair will open the game tomorrow for Pakistan.
Both Pakistani wickets in the final session of the day were taken by Mitchell Johnson. Pakistan has scored 61 runs in the second innings and leads by 370 runs.
Earlier, Australia was all out for 261 in response to Pakistan’s 570 in the first innings. Although Mitch March batted well and skipper Michael Clarke also batted well for his 47, the two couldn’t save Australia from follow-on, which Pakistan didn’t enforce. Australia had lost their first wicket before the end of Day-2. Night-Watch-Man Lyon gave a good stand along with Warner but it was Warner himself who lost his wicket to Rahat Ali after making 9 runs. Maxwell (37) was the next to go who was bowled out on an absolute beauty by Zulfiqar Babar. Lyon was bowled out for 15 by Rahat Ali and suddenly Australians found themselves 100 for 5 as Smith left without adding anything to the scoreboard..
Clarke and Marsh held the innings together for a while but Clarke was undone by Imran Khan on a ball that dipped into Clarke. It was a classic Imran Khan dismissal by the younger Imran. Haddin (10) and Johnson (0) proved to be of no help at all for the Australian cause. Siddle batted well for his 28 but Marsh and Siddle both got dismissed by Imran and Hafeez respectively within 3 balls.
Imran Khan got 3 wickets, Zulfiqar Babar, Rahat Ali and Yasir Shah got 2 wickets each while Hafeez could secure only 1.
