DHAKA (Web Desk) - Muhammad Hafeez and Kamran Akmal struck fifties as Pakistan beat New Zealand in a war-up match of the Twenty20 World Cup at Sher-e-Bengal Stadium in Dhaka on Monday.

New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat against Pakistan.

Akmal, who opened the batting for Pakistan, struck two 6s and six 4s in his 52 while T20 captain skipper Muhammad Hafeez hit 55.

Sharjeel Khan just survived 9 balls in his 12 runs before giving his wicket to Ronnie Hira. Sohaib Maqsood struck two consecutive fours in the last over to chase down the target of 146 with one ball to spare.

Earlier, Brendon McCullum made 59 not out to guide New Zealand to 145 in 20 overs.

Umar Gul was the most successful bowler for Pakistan with bowling figures of 3/16.
