CHITTAGONG, Bangladesh (AP) - Opener Peter Fulton and Kane Williamson hit half centuries to set up New Zealand for a big score at 186-2 against Bangladesh at tea on the first day of the first test on Wednesday.

After losing Hamish Rutherford for 34, the duo built a 126-run partnership before Fulton was out for 73, minutes before the second interval. They added 90 runs in the middle session.

Fulton collected his total off 198 balls with seven boundaries and one six, while Williamson was 71 not out from 126 balls that included nine boundaries.

Resuming after lunch at 93-1, the visitors added another 93 to dominate the struggling bowlers.

Of the seven bowlers used, Sohag Gazi and Nasir Hossain shared one wicket each.

Fulton looked impressive in his third test half century and surprisingly fell in the penultimate over before tea off Nasir by giving an easy catch to Mominul Haque at cover.

In the opening session, Gazi claimed opener Hamish Rutherford, who lasted 55 balls, stroking three boundaries and a six. Abdur Razzak caught Rutherford at mid-off after the New Zealander gave a leading edge off Gazi (1-50) while attempting a pull shot.

After overnight rain, New Zealand woke to sunny skies and won the toss at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium. Rutherford and Fulton shared 57 for the first wicket.

Earlier, Bangladesh dropped Al Amin, Mahmudullah and Naeem Islam from its 14-member squad and handed middle-order batsman Marshall Aiyub his test debut. New Zealand picked newcomers Ish Sodhi and Corey Anderson and dropped Tom Latham, Mark Gillespie, Neil Wagner, Dean Brownlie.
