ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The government on Wednesday revised petroleum prices, raising the price of petrol by Rs2.97 per litre while slashing the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs32.63, according to a Petroleum Division notification.

Following the revision, petrol will be available at Rs337.51 per litre, while HSD will cost Rs363.06 per litre.

The revised prices will take effect on Thursday, August 20, and will remain applicable for one day.

The government continues to impose Rs114 per litre in taxes and duties on petrol and Rs100 per litre on diesel.

The latest reduction has brought the price of HSD down significantly from its peak of Rs520.35 per litre recorded on April 3.

The price had risen from Rs281 per litre after the US-Iran war began on February 28.

Earlier in the day, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik has said the government was fully aware of the difficulties being faced by the public and was making every effort to provide relief.

“The difficult times will certainly end,” the petroleum minister said, adding that the government was working to resolve public issues and provide targeted relief.

He said the government had already provided relief through targeted subsidies and had not abandoned the people during the current difficult circumstances.
