Summary Haroon Akhtar has been appointed prime minister’s adviser on industries and production with federal minister status, bringing extensive business, parliamentary and economic experience.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The federal government has formally appointed Haroon Akhtar Khan as the prime minister’s adviser on industries and production, granting him the status of a federal minister.
The Cabinet Division issued an official notification following his appointment by the president. Haroon Akhtar will immediately assume his responsibilities and retain the industries and production portfolio as part of his advisory role.
The government highlighted his extensive background in business, public service and economic affairs. He has served as a senator twice and has also been elected to the Punjab Assembly on two occasions.
Haroon Akhtar holds a Master of Science degree in actuarial science and business administration from the University of Manitoba in Canada. He is a fellow of both the Society of Actuaries in the United States and the Canadian Institute of Actuaries.
Before returning to Pakistan, he gained professional experience in the United States and Canada, working in areas including corporate governance, economics, strategic planning, forecasting, modelling and investment.
From 2015 to 2018, he served as special assistant to the prime minister on revenue with the status of a federal minister.
Earlier, he served as a senator from 2006 to 2012 and was a senior member of several parliamentary standing committees dealing with finance, economic affairs, revenue, statistics, planning and development, commerce, industries and production, petroleum, natural resources and minerals, as well as sports, culture and tourism.
With more than three decades of engagement with the business community and industrial stakeholders, Haroon Akhtar has developed extensive experience across economic policy, industry, business and public-sector affairs.
During his career, he has worked to strengthen coordination between businesses and government institutions, bringing investors, industrialists and regulators together to facilitate investment and industrial cooperation.
His supporters say these efforts have contributed to improving investor confidence, encouraging industrial partnerships and broadening opportunities for industrial development in Pakistan.
