KARACHI (Dunya News) – Sugar prices in Pakistan have taken a notable dip, with rates in Karachi dropping to Rs 160-165 per kilogram. The ex-mill price in Karachi has fallen to Rs 155 per kg, while Punjab sees ex-mill prices down to Rs150 per kg.

According to the Punjab Commissioner, Amjad Hafeez, sugarcane crushing in the province has reached 5.49 million tons, producing around 430,778 metric tons of sugar. This surge in production has contributed to a price drop of Rs 15-17 per kg in ex-mill rates.

Currently, Punjab holds sugar reserves of 542,900 metric tons. Market analysts predict that prices may fall further in the coming days due to ample supply and ongoing crushing.

Sugar mills in Punjab are paying farmers between Rs 375-480 per 40 kg of sugarcane, ensuring continued production while stabilizing the market. The price drop is being welcomed by consumers but poses challenges for sugarcane growers.

With the recent trend, traders expect sugar to remain affordable for the general public, while authorities continue monitoring the market to prevent shortages or excessive speculation.
