KARACHI (Dunya News) - Karachi Chamber of Commerce President Javed Bilwani has announced that all major trade chambers across Pakistan will observe a nationwide strike tomorrow in protest against the expanded powers of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

Speaking at an emergency press conference in Karachi, Bilwani stated that the strike has been called under the banner of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), with participation from all affiliated trade bodies.

He noted that while discussions with the government were held in a positive environment, the failure to receive written assurances derailed the progress.

Bilwani emphasised that the business community had requested a formal written response from the government to address their concerns over FBR’s excessive authority.

Until amendments or rollback of these powers are ensured in writing, he warned that the strike will continue.

He further mentioned that if the government does not provide written guarantees, the strike could be extended from one to two days.

Traders across major cities, including Karachi, Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, Sialkot, and Peshawar, have expressed unanimous support for the peaceful strike.

The strike is aimed at defending the rights of the business community and urging the government to create a fairer and more accountable regulatory environment.
