ISLAMABAD (News Desk/Dunya News) – The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) wants to get the monthly fuel cost adjustment (FCA) fixed at Rs5.62 per unit for December [2022] – an amount which is higher than Rs4.12 determined for November and to be collected through bills this month.
For this purpose, the CPPA has approached the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) which will decide the matter after holding a public hearing on January 31.
The suggestion comes as the inflation-hit people are already overburdened by record-high electricity prices. But these higher tariffs did not come in isolation with Pakistan witnessing a record increase in gas tariffs as well amid rising food prices.
Previously, the Nepra had calculated the FCA at Rs4.12 per unit for the month of November [2022], which would be adjusted in the monthly bills of January [2023].

The decision came after the CPPA lodged a request for a Rs4.66 FCA. However, the Nepra didn’t agree with the calculations and determined the amount at Rs4.12, which had set the FCA for the month of October at Rs3.07.
However, the FCA rate fixed for the month of December won’t be applicable to the K-Electric, which is responsible for power supply to the consumers in Karachi and surrounding areas.
In October, the total amount collected under the FCA head from power consumers was around Rs28 billion, which reduced to Rs15bn in November. Meanwhile, the total in December is expected to be Rs5.41bn, representing a consistent decline.
