ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has ordered strict crackdown against the hoarding of sugar and profiteers.
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif presided over a high-level meeting in Lahore and expressed grave concern regarding on-going profiteering and smuggling. To combat such issues, a session of high-level officials has been summoned for today in Islamabad, the session will propose practical measures to curb the smuggling of sugar along with products.
The prime minister instructed that strong action should be taken against those involved in smuggling, illegal profiteering and hoarding. The public cannot be left at the mercy of smugglers, hoarders and profiteers. He emphasized to hold such people accountable for aggravating miseries of the public.
The prime minister also directed the Chief Minister Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi, to take pertinent steps to control the prices of sugar in the province, also the monitoring and implementation of such measures should be ensured. The prime minister instructed the chief minister to meet with sugar mill owners and persuade them for avoiding increase in the sugar prices.
The prime minister stressed that the sugar confiscated from smugglers should be provided to people at affordable prices. SAPM Ahad Cheema, chief Secretory, food Secretory, IG Punjab, and other officials also participated in the meeting.
